Storytelling time (Nov. 17)

November 16, 2007

I’ve had requests that I add a calendar feature so people can easily find events on any given day … and I’m working on that possibility … slowly, I admit.  In the meantime, I’ll add the dates to the tags and the title.   And I appreciate the e-mails this little endeavor is generating!!  Comments would be nice too.  🙂

On to the featured event.  Today we took in the City Museum, and one of the features upstairs near the art studio was a cut-your-own snowflake booth with a storyteller who entertained kids while they (and their parents) cut.  It was through her that I found out about another storytelling event on Saturday:  The Riverwind Storytellers are taking part in the worldwide Tellabration day with a presentation at The Blum House in Collinsville.  I’d never heard of Tellabration before, but apparently it’s a couple of decades old and always happens the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  It’s a good idea and there’s a fairly vibrant storytelling community here, so I’m surprised there aren’t more events associated with it happening locally.
This particular event seems to be geared more toward older youths and adults (and it does feature a free-will offering to benefit a local charity).  The location is next to the Collinsville library at 414 W. Main.  Time is 7:30 p.m.  Info is at 618.397.1377.

We happen to visit Collinsville quite a lot because of the water park, the Mexican restaurants and friends who live there.  The downtown is trying very hard to establish an arts presence with summertime outdoor movies and concerts, and this seems to be along the same lines.
