Magic House on a summer’s evening (June 4 to Aug. 20)

June 2, 2008

You’ve gotta love any event for kids that needs the following caveat:  “Visitors will be admitted to the museum until capacity is reached.”  Sounds more like a sold-out concert where a celebrity is appearing, but no — it’s the Magic House’s extended hours on Wednesday evenings, courtesy of Wachovia Securities.  Come between 5:30 and 9 p.m. on Wednesdays in June, July and August and get in free (the limit is two adults and four of their own children).  The deal includes all the regular activities as well as special exhibits like Sandcastle Beach, which opens Thursday (June 5).

If you arrive, enter and discover that the museum seems to be already about 100 kids over capacity, you might want to head upstairs; it tends to be less crowded than the lower floors.  Although the science experiments there are above the comprehension of the average 2-year-old, mine still loves to dabble with them.  He can spend hours with the ping-pong balls alone.
