Two political rallies and a textile drive (Oct. 18 and 20)

October 17, 2008

One last post on politics, and then I’ll quit, I promise!  But when you overhear parents at all sorts of venues talking about the rallies they’ll be attending, you know people are fired up.  Tomorrow’s (Oct. 18) is for Barack Obama, at noon at the Gateway Arch (grounds open at 10:15 a.m.).  It’s free and open to the public, but for security reasons umbrellas and bags are prohibited, as are all banners and signs.

John McCain’s event is Monday (Oct. 20) at 9 a.m. (doors open at 7 a.m.) in New Town, St. Charles.  It’s also free and open to the public, but tickets are required and can be picked up at the campaign offices listed on the Web site.  For details, call 314.667.4728. M. will be bummed that this time the Palin kids won’t be joining McCain!

And if you’re sick to death of politics, here’s a totally unrelated tip:  the Home Eco store in South City hosts its monthly textile recycling day Saturday (Oct. 18), as it does every third weekend of the month.  All cloth items in any condition (but they do have to be clean) are accepted, and they’ll be sorted to be either sold, donated or recycled into paper, insulation or other products.  In addition to clothing, linens and other home goods, the drive will accept purses, belts, backpacks and wearable shoes in pairs. For details, call Terry at 314.351.2000.  Donations can be made between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
