Saturday writing workshops for teens (Nov. 8, 15, 22 and Dec. 6)

November 5, 2008

We are all about writing books at our house lately. M.’s kindergarten class had an authors’ tea last week, where the kids read books they’d written in a one-on-one setting with their parent(s), followed by a one-on-one session with someone else’s parent(s). It was great fun, although I’m still pretty clueless when it comes to interpreting kindergarteners’ “best guess” spelling.

If you have a middle- or high-schooler who’s retained that love of making up stories and writing them down, check out the StudioSTL workshops on Saturday mornings throughout November and into December. Registration is required (download the form here) but there’s no cost for attending.  Participants are asked to complete an entire set of two-hour sessions.  Haiku is the November 8, 15 and 22 topic; graphic fiction is on tap Dec. 6 in a special afternoon session.

The workshops are held in a new facility, at the Centene Center for Arts and Education, 3547 Olive Street, Suite 300, and happen thanks to the help of the Saint Louis University Undergraduate English Club.  For more information, call 314.289.4080.
