Follow that Zamboni! (Nov. 14 until March)

November 11, 2008

Yesterday I wrote about our favorite indoor cold-weather spots, so today it’s only fair I mention one of our outdoor favorites: Steinberg Skating Rink. The season opens Friday (Nov. 14) at 3 p.m. and continues all day every day, including holidays, until March. (Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.) The amenities aren’t fancy, but the lovely Forest Park atmosphere absolutely can’t be beat. For details on extended holiday open skate times, visit the rink’s homepage or call 314.367.7465. Admission is$6.50 for adults and $5.50 for age 12 and under; if you think you’ll skate often this season, 10-day passes are the way to go at $52 for adults and $44 for kids.

Another skating rink well worth a visit, Florissan’ts James J. Eagan Center Ice Rink, opens on Monday (Nov. 17). It’s newly renovated, but the admission prices haven’t changed. For non-residents, that means kids under 5 are free, kids under 17 are $3 and everyone older is $4 (resident rates are lower for those age 5 and over).  There’s public skating every day; check the homepage for times or call 314.921.4470.  Note that there are special open skating times from 2 to 4 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving and also throughout the December holiday season.
