World’s longest shoe chain forming now (Jan. 14)

January 13, 2009

During the National Soccer Coaches Association of America meeting here in St. Louis this week, a new record may be set: the world’s longest shoe chain. To top the previous 10,500 pairs, the US Soccer Passback Program needs to collect roughly a thousand more pairs. They don’t have to be soccer shoes; other athletic shoes will work too, as long as they lace. And if you have a kindergartner who’s learning to tie, what better place to let him practice?

I’m not sure when the tying will be done, but the drop-off begins tomorrow (Jan. 14) at 3 p.m. at the convention center downtown. For details, contact Courtney Fischer, corporate development coordinator for the US Soccer Foundation, via e-mail at cfischer@ussoccerfoundation.org or phone at 202-872-6659.

The Passback Program is a worthy cause:  It distributes uniforms and equipment to soccer-playing kids in all corners of the world.
