Free music once again (Fridays, Feb. 27 to Apr. 24))

February 24, 2009

I’ve missed blogging about free music concerts this winter! The boys have even stopped asking when’s the next “music and lights,” their term for the free outdoor music series that are a staple of our summertime entertainment.

It’s still a little nippy for outdoor music — unless it happens to be a drum corp marching in the Mardi Gras parade! — but I do have a nice indoor alternative: Kemper Presents, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum’s spring concert series. From this Friday (Feb. 27) all the way through April, you’ll be able to hear musicians like Theodore, a local country/alternative band; Mmmelt, experimental soundscapes; Fire Dog, indie pop; and BrothaD and the Woo-Daddies, a groovin’ trio.

The concerts are in the art museum on the southeastern corner of Washington University’s campus from 6 to 8 p.m. They’re all free, but attendees are asked to bring a donation (unopened peanut butter or jelly and $5) for a local children’s charity. You can sample the sounds on the series’ YouTube page so you know what you’re getting for your PB&J.

And check it out:  I get to do my first “spring” category of the year!!  Woo-Daddy!
