Get ready to write (Apr. 18, May 9, June 13)

April 15, 2009

There’s been a lot of emphasis on reading this month, what with National Library Week (this week!) and Jane Smiley’s recent appearance in town to promote the selection of her novel “A Thousand Acres” for the latest Read MOre initiative.

Today’s highlight is about writing, specifically prepping young writers to enter The Big Write Youth Writing Contest, part of The Big Read program. This Saturday (April 18) at 1 p.m., St. Louis Writers Guild member Jud Miner will lead a free workshop at the Barnes and Noble on Clarkson Road in Chesterfield about that contest, priming kids to think about entering it. Subsequent hour-long sessions on May 9 and June 13 are likewise geared to be fun, informative and stimulating.

Reservations for the small-group workshops can be made by contacting Julie Casey at 636.536.9783 or crm2i92@bn.com.
