Friday movie series start (May 1, 8 and 22)

April 29, 2009

Hats off to St. Peters, celebrating its 50th anniversary as a city and its 100th as a town, for notching one of the first free outdoor movies of the season. On Friday (May 1), the Celebration Committee (love that!) will be screening Kung Fu Panda at the City Centre Park’s amphitheater, across the creek from City Hall. Bring your own snacks and drinks — and don’t forget a blanket to cuddle up in, as the temp. may get a bit chilly after dusk hits and the movie starts, around 7:45 p.m. The city continues its movie series in June, July and August. Dates and films are available here.

And while we’re talking free movies in the western ‘burbs, mark the calendar for Wildwood’s first-of-four movie night Friday, May 8, with an 8 p.m. showing of Hoosiers, hosted by the city’s rec department at Town Center Plaza. It’s providing popcorn and beverages, but of course you’ll still need to bring a lawn chair or blanket.  Dates for the rest of the summer’s movies are listed at the city’s homepage.

Over in St. Charles, the four-movie series of free outdoor movies, Friday Night Flicks in Frenchtown, begins May 22 with Bedtime Stories. There will be music and beverages at 8 p.m., followed by the movie. Location is 1800 N. Second St. For the rest of the lineup, visit the city’s homepage.

I may just show up at one of these for a little incognito R&R — at yesterday’s Twilight Tuesday, total strangers were greeting M., S. and me with things like, “Oh, those little boys are back this year!” and “Wow, you boys are getting big!” and “Are you going to stay with your mommy this year?” The answer to that was soon demonstrated to be a resounding NO!  To be fair, S. did limit his antics to dancing in the walkways rather than flat-out running, which was definitely an improvement!
