Outdoor music as an excuse for people-watching (May 4 throughout the summer)

May 4, 2009

<strong> Just a few days ago we were out people-watching at Westport Plaza. Technically, I was doing a review for one of my freelance clients, so when the tax auditor calls, I’ll say I was closely observing the ambiance and clientele of the particular dining venue. Your excuse for planting yourself on a bench or at an outdoor table can be the music: Westport’s lunch and early-evening music and entertainment series are at full force this week.  Today (May 4) and Wednesday are lunch concerts at 11:30 a.m.; Tuesday and Thursday are happy hour concerts (5 p.m.); Saturday brings Joe the Juggler to the street from 6 to 8 p.m.

Much of Westport, especially on the weekends, is upscale-adult-oriented — you could flick an ice cube and hit six perfectly coiffed bachelorette parties. But there’s chain-style kid fare too, and during family-friendly hours the pedestrian area is suitable for dawdling and toddling.

To whet your listening appetite, let me just promote two of the upcoming acts:  May 12 is the Dawn Weber Duo (a trumpet player previously of Mo and Dawn, for those of you who like house or jazz or electronic or urban music) and May 13 now scheduled for May 18 is Alvin Jett and Phat Noiz (always lively blues/rock).
