Tuning up at Old Post Office Plaza (Thursdays in May)

May 6, 2009

I’m now the proud possessor of a link to the activities calendar at Old Post Office Plaza, the new outdoor concert venue and public space in downtown St. Louis. I was grousing a few weeks ago that info about downtown events is scattered and hard to find … and then a helpful reader alerted me to the source I needed. Ask and ye shall receive!

It’s good timing, too, because every Thursday in May (starting tomorrow, the 7th), the St. Louis Public Library’s free Not So Quiet music series will be happening on the plaza. From 5 to 6:30 p.m — a couple hours earlier than it used to be, which is great news for my early-to-bed kids — there’s classical, electro funk, acoustic and jazz on the schedule. (The plaza is near the downtown express branch, but if it’s raining come showtime, the concert will be moved to the central branch a few blocks west and south.)

The plaza has a grant of $30,000 for programming, so expect to see many more fun events in the works. For example, if you happen to be downtown exploring among the skyscrapers on the first or third Friday of the month (in May, the 8th or the 22nd), stop by for the KDHX lunchtime concert from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
