Friday night festivals (June 5)

June 3, 2009

A friend who lives in Olivette is a one-person tourism board for the city’s Party in the Park on Friday (June 5) starting at 5 p.m. in Stacy Park. And she makes a compelling case for bringing the kids over for pony rides, bounce time on big inflatables and other amusements before The Phoenix Band starts its concert at 7 p.m. The entertainment’s all free, and if you don’t feel like packing a picnic after a hard week’s work, you can buy concessions on site.  Arrive early to snag a spot in the parking lot.

A few miles to the south, Laumeier Sculpture Park kicks off its @LOMA series of music and movies with Hudson and the HooDoo Cats at 7 p.m., followed by The Great Outdoors at 8:30 p.m.  Though the movies are all either PG or PG-13, the crowd tends to contain plenty of folks without kids, thanks to the park’s great ambiance at night.  Concessions are available but coolers are welcome too, as long as they don’t contain any glass.

This series runs the four Fridays in June only, so don’t procrastinate if you want to check it out!  In case of rain, the event will be postponed a night.

The one-woman Olivette publicity machine says thank you!!! Maybe I should go into public relations fulltime?
