MoBot’s $1.50 birthday party (June 15)

June 13, 2009

A buck and a half will get you into the Missouri Botanical Garden on Monday from 9 a.m. until the extra-late hour of 10 p.m. It’ll also get your child into the Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. It may mark the first time EVER I don’t have to drag the kids away before they’re ready to go.mobot child garden

The largesse is an homage to the garden’s 150th anniversary, and thus the celebration has many historic features, including actors in Victorian costumes and an organ grinder from noon to 8 p.m. If you’re into the garden’s history and/or future, you’ll want to hear some of the afternoon lectures. But your kids will be more intersted in the opportunity to picnic in the garden’s Cohen Amphitheater, starting at 6 p.m., before the screening of Over the Hedge at 8:30 p.m.

Cake isn’t among the offerings, as far as I can see, but you’re welcome to bring your own to the picnic and blow out a candle to Henry Shaw’s vision.
